Sneak peek: Jordan & Megan | Lynchburg Wedding Photographer

Friends! I feel like it has been forever since I have blogged! I have been swamped with projects around here and am hoping to get caught up on the blog within the next few weeks. As for right now, I am about to hit the road again for another wedding in Fredericksburg this weekend. So excited! But before I go, I wanted to get this sneak peek up for this lovely couple! They are preparing to head out on their honeymoon with another fun couple who is getting married tomorrow! (Isn't that the best idea?? They are BFFs and all going together! So cool!) Anyway, Jordan and Megan got married last weekend at Boonsboro United Methodist Church and I think I speak for all of the attendees that the weather was amazingly refreshing and a great reflection of the entire day. A lovely, refreshing wedding day with a TON of laughs and even more love. :) Seriously, guys, shooting weddings never gets old!!

Here are a few of our favorites:

I hope you all have a fab weekend!!

Matthew & Shannon Wedding - Top Ten | Lynchburg Wedding Photographer

Matthew and Shannon's beautiful celebration started with a God honoring ceremony at Lynchburg College's Snidow Chapel. After the ceremony we went out to the dell on campus for pictures and then quickly made our way to the reception in the Hall Ballroom, also on campus. This is one of my favorite wedding locations in Lynchburg and this couple filled the setting with love and joy all day long. Check out their Top Ten!

10. Shannon's grandmother was a photographer and we were able to see some of her work the morning of the wedding at Shannons' parent's house. After being taken away by the beautiful photographs (she was soooo before her time), we got the idea to try and duplicate a few portraits. This made for bridal portraits that not only captured Shannon's timeless beauty, but also created even more memories for the family.

9. Speaking of memories... the dress that Shannon wore to the rehearsal was actually her mom's wedding dress! It was redesigned and transformed thru the alteration talents of her grandmother (Ann Buss) and then tied off with her grandmother's scarf. Seriously. Could that be any sweeter?

8. And while I'm discussing the rehearsal... :) Shannon's wedding coordinator suggested that she and her bridesmaids wear their wedding day shoes to the rehearsal as a way to break them in a bit. Genius!

7. I wish every single one of you could have heard the musicians Matthew and Shannon invited to perform during their ceremony. The small chapel was filled with pure, powerful worship music. It seriously had EVERYONE in the room smiling. We loved it so much we actually asked if they had a CD for sale. Guess what? They had never performed together as a group before - they were just a group of friend’s that Matthew and Shannon pulled together for the big day. I can still hear that sound as I type. And my heart is smiling.

6. Shannon’s bridesmaids were exactly what all bridesmaids should be. They should write a book! They waited on her hand and foot. Never once complaining about how they looked, or how hot is was, always carrying her dress, offering a drink, running errands, and reminding her of how beautiful she was and how very happy they were for her.

5. The love that each of the guests had for Matthew and Shannon was so heavy in the air. You really couldn't not feel it.  There were two different last minute emergencies that were true testimonies to how important this day was to everyone involved, not just the bride and groom. No matter what the situation, their friends and family did whatever it took to make sure Matthew and Shannon had an amazing day. We were blown away by that.

4. The Best Man, Matthew’s brother, gave a truly unique toast with such meaning and passion. Flying in from the Republic of Georgia, he brought with him a native charge and invited crowd participation. It was not only entertaining, but moving and memorable to say the least.

3. Dance Party!! The DJ was a friend of the bride and groom and he rocked the house from the first song to the last song. So fun!

2. We loved that Shannon stayed true to her love of cupcakes and had them in lieu of a cake. So cute!

1. The grand sparkler exit was the best we have seen. They searched high and low for the long sparklers and had plenty of them. They passed them out along a path leading up to the getaway car and made sure to have lighting torches available. The fact that the dance party would not end helped in that there were tons of people left at the end of the night for a long line of cheers, smiles, sparks and well wishes. It was spectacular!

Sneak Peek: Sara and Scott! | Fredericksburg Wedding Photographer

Oh there is so much to say about this wedding day... but I will save it for another post. I just wanted to get a quick sneak peek online for the lovely couple who returned from their honeymoon this week!

Jason & Stephanie - Top Ten | Outer Banks OBX Wedding Photographer

I am interrupting this regularly scheduled Top Ten posting to write just a little somethin' about these two. Please forgive this exception.

So, Steph and I go way back. (We shared a high school prom date, actually. If that doesn't make us great friends then I don't know what does. :)) You know those kind of friends that you don't hang out with all the time, and you're not even really a part of each other's circles of friends... but they are the friend you call when you are having a rough night? Or the friend you go to for advice? There's something irreplaceable about those friendships even though you don't see each other regularly. Steph is that kind of friend to me. She holds a big place in my heart.

When she asked me to shoot her wedding, my first answer was "no." I know, I know. But, I wanted to be able to attend the wedding as a friend, bring a gift, and dance all night on the dance floor. I wanted to be able to celebrate the day with her. As time passed, I started really thinking and Stephanie started really laying it on thick (okay, just a little ;)) and I changed my mind. And I am so glad that I did.

And as her wedding day unfolded - I realized - I was so blessed to have one of the best seats in the house. I was with Steph from the moment she was getting her make up done until the night was just about over. I got to see it all - the preparation - the portraits - the ceremony - the dancing - the traditions - the craziness. I was so, so happy that I changed my mind. And so happy to have been able to share in her happiness all. day. long.

Now... Jason. If there were one word to describe Jason, I would have to say humble. He is one of the most humble, kindest guys I know. And he has the BEST smile! He lit up every picture he was in. (Thank you!) But most importantly, he is crazy about Stephanie. And that is my favorite thing about him. In the words of Jason's big brother (and Steph's good friend), "There isn't a better man out there for Stephanie."  They are absolutely perfect for each other and I am so happy for them.

And now back to our regularly scheduled Top Ten list...

Top Ten Favorite Things About Jason & Stephanie's Big Day

10. Stephanie and Jason did a really great job when they chose the people to stand by their side at their ceremony. We were impressed that every single person seemed to be 100% focused on the bride and groom all day. That is truly a unique thing! Stephanie was surrounded by calm, relaxed girls, and Jason was surrounded by his battle buddies and lifetime friends. The love between the groups was undeniable. Definitely one of our favorite things about their day!

9. The guys boutonnières were not flowers, but instead just a simple starfish pinned to their shirts. What a lovely idea!

8. The night before the wedding I called the bride and groom and asked them to have their bridal party bring sunglasses to their portrait sessions. The bridesmaids took this idea and ran with it - heading out to the dollar store and loading up on a lot of silly summer toys! We decided to use those props in an impromptu photo booth during the reception and the pictures turned out fantastic. (However, next time we'll have our studio back drop on hand just in case. :))

7. Stephanie had a mixup with her hair and make up stylist that left her frantically searching for a salon to do her hair and make up the morning of her wedding. The ladies at Spa Vogue in Kitty Hawk  were awesome in accommodating Stephanie. The spa was so chic and appeared to be designed to host entire bridal parties for wedding day preparation. We highly recommend this location if you are getting married at the Outer Banks! They took great care of Stephanie.

6. Stephanie and Jason had previously ordered a custom designed guestbook made with their engagement pictures. About halfway through the reception I realized that no one had seen or signed the guestbook (it was in a faraway corner) and I let Steph's mom know. The next thing I know, the book was being passed table to table - and at the end of the night it had more signatures and messages in it than any other guestbook I've seen! I am now an encourager of passing your guestbook around during the reception. :)

5. Almost everything involved with the wedding was located in one place. The reception was located in a hotel that offered rooms for guests and an outdoor ceremony location right on the water! This was very convenient for the guests and that's something we really loved.

4. Speaking of everything being located in one place... this enabled the entire weekend to be full of convenient celebration. The bridal party were able to hang out all day Friday and Saturday before the wedding was to start, as well as getting together for a brunch on Sunday. We loved that Jason and Stephanie were able to spend the entire weekend celebrating with their family and friends!

3. Jason and Stephanie made it clear that the photography was one of their biggest priorities of their wedding day. They set aside more than enough time for us to take pictures and as a result they have a wide variety of portraits to choose from. Usually we only have time for just a few pictures of the bridal party or the bride and groom, but this time we were able to get more pictures than usual. Of course, that was our favorite part of the day!

2. We really appreciated that Stephanie wanted to have her wedding at the beach because it was truly a part of who she is. She has been spending summers in the OBX for as long as I can remember, and I know she had always dreamt of a wedding on the beach. Ya'll know how I love meaningful wedding day decisions!

1. There is a fine line between a casual beach wedding and a too-formal beach wedding, and Jason and Stephanie really hit the nail on the head with their planning. Between the fresh, cool colors selected, the formal (but lightweight) wedding dress, and the guy's linen attire, their wedding had perfect touches of beach friendly and wedding formal at the same time. We really loved how everything came together so nicely. The look and feel of the wedding and the love between Jason and Steph came together to create an absolutely beautiful wedding day.

Jason and Steph, I am so excited for you and cannot wait to see the journey ahead of you unfold. Stephanie, you better be calling me! :)

Megan and Trevor - Top 10 | Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer

So we are starting something new! We're excited to start listing our Top 10 Favorite Things about each wedding we are invited to photograph. This is a fun way for us to talk about specific things we loved about the people and the entire event, while at the same time sharing some really fun wedding ideas for our future clients! We hope you enjoy reading these as much as we enjoyed coming up with them!

Top 10 Things we loved about the Megan & Trevor's Wedding:

10. The luxurious hotel suite the ladies got ready in...it was beautiful! Talk about feeling pampered!

9. The colors! It's always fun to know the colors the bride chooses for her big day. Megan went with a combination we had not seen before: teal and lime green. We LOVED them!

8. Speaking of colors...the Bridesmaids' bouquets were stunning. They were a small handful of lime green chrysanthemums with a base of magnolia leaves. Simple yet stunning. And ya'll know how I love keeping things simple!

7. The church was beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that Trevor specifically asked his parents to join this church because he knew it was where he wanted to marry Megan. The best part of this little story? He asked them years ago. :)

6. Megan's get-away dress! Oh it was  so classic. The strapless, above the knee cocktail number couldn't have looked better on anyone else.

5. The awesome wedding and reception coordinators (the photo above is of the reception team). Between five different people, we had all the help we needed for the picture taking process to go as smoothly as possible. Plus we love that the ladies were there to lift any possible stress Megan had.

4. Megan's Dad is apparently quite the singer, and it didn't take too much encouragement to get him on the mic. He added the perfect touch to get the party going, and gave us some great entertainment!

3. Bag Pipes welcomed the guests as they arrived to the ceremony. There is something so peaceful, yet exciting about that sound as it meets your ears. It put a smile on everyone's face.

2. Trevor is a really funny guy. The mother/son dance was downright hilarious as Trevor threw in random moves just for the sake of, well, you know... being funny. :) And Mom, well, you could see the adoration beaming as her son shone on the dance floor.

1. The overall relaxed feeling of the day. Once the dress was on and the guests began to arrive, Megan was was nothing but ready. Ready to walk down that aisle, ready to commit to forever, ready to marry the man who loves her so. very. much. The whole day was such a joy!

Congratulations Trevor and Megan!
